How to Make Your Own Dishwasher Tabs!

Spread the love

Dishwasher tabsThis is a great money saving recipe, so you don’t have to buy dishwasher tabs! By making the tabs yourself, the tabs end up costing you roughly 3 Cents each!!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • 1 cup Borax
  • 1 cup Baking Soda
  • 1/2 cup Epsom salt
  • 8-10 tablespoons of Lemon juice
  • Wax paper

Here’s what to do:

  • Spread 1 cup of Baking soda onto a cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 400 degrees for an hour, stirring every 20 minutes. This turns the baking soda into Washing Soda.
  • Mix together the dry ingredients in a bowl.
  • Add the lemon juice to the dry mixture, starting with 8 tablespoons, and increasing as needed.
  • The mixture should be sticky and thick enough to form.  If it’s too crumbly, add more lemon juice.
  • Place wax paper in a baking pan.  Using a melon baller, scoop out a ball of the mixture and place on the wax paper.
  • Using a spoon, flatten the ball a little, so it’s the rectangular size of dishwashing tabs, or so it will fit in your dishwasher’s detergent compartment.
  • Let them dry overnight.
  • Store in an empty, sealable container – an old dishwashing tab container would work perfect.

Helpful tip:  Rather than placing the mixture onto wax paper, you can use ice cube trays.  Just be sure to fill them only half way.

Make Your Own Flower Soap Petals!

Spread the love

Flower Soap PetalsHere’s what you’ll need:

  • Melt and Pour Soap
  • Fabric Flower Petals
  • Tweezers
  • Wax Paper
  • Double Broiler

Here’s a tip on where to get your supplies:

You can purchase melt and pour soap on Ebay for about $3.25 a pound – it’s best to use a clear soap, and not necessarily fragrance free.  Just be sure to choose a scent that you and/or your guests will enjoy.

Fabric flower petals are a cinch to find as they’re often sold in local dollar stores (this would be your cheapest solution). You can also visit a craft store, pick up some faux flower stems and cut off the petals for dipping in the soap.

  • Slowly melt the “melt and pour” soap in a double broiler.
  • Using tweezers, dip an individual flower petal into the melted soap.
  • Gently shake off any excess soap, then place the petal onto wax paper so it dries and hardens.
  • Repeat the steps above until you have dipped all of your petals.
  • Arrange the petals in a dish for you and/or your guests to use.
